Traditionally the path of a shaman as they learned their craft, and learned to walk beside nature instead of trying to lead it from the front or push from behind was based on an individual journey guided by their mentor. The opportunity to learn like this is, I believe, both valuable and relevant today, as much as it has been for thousands of years.
